Cockroaches are important household and industrial pests. In addition to being annoying, they can be mechanical vectors of pathogens that contribute to food poisoning, wound infections, respiratory infections and dysentery. Some proteins found in cockroach feces, exuviae (skin castings), and dead individuals can also contribute to allergies that may trigger asthma and other respiratory problems, especially in children and the elderly.

Cockroach control strategies vary by species. Application of baits, dusts and sprays should be directed into and around harbourage areas. An integrated approach to control should always be used. Entry points and harbourage areas must be sealed with cement or a caulking solution, sanitation must be addressed by removing all water sources and hygiene must be a priority to ensure that there are no food residues available for the cockroach with dustbins emptied on a regular basis.

Always remember to use sticky traps to monitor the presence and movement patterns of the cockroach.
